Chronic heart and respiratory illness doesn’t have to slow you down. The cardiovascular and pulmonary rehabilitation programs at Springfield Hospital are designed to help people with cardiac and lung problems stay active and live fully.
Working with You
Springfield Hospital Cardiac Rehabilitation and Pulmonary Rehabilitation programs are designed to reduce symptoms, increase activity and help patients make informed lifestyle choices to improve their health. Our dedicated rehabilitation staff members supervise each patient’s session — including monitoring blood pressure, heart rate, cardiac rhythm and oxygen saturation as needed.
The care team is comprised of registered nurses specializing in cardiac rehabilitation, registered respiratory therapists specializing in pulmonary rehabilitation, and physicians. Because we emphasize a collaborative approach, patients are encouraged to participate in improving their health and can expect to:
- Become physically stronger
- Quit smoking
- Improve nutrition
- Better understand their disease and treatment
- Improve breathing techniques
- Understand their risk for further health problems
- Increase participation in the activities of daily living

Cardiac Rehabilitation
Cardiac rehabilitation is a safe and effective way to help patients feel better, grow stronger, reduce stress, reduce the risk of future heart problems and live longer. Patients can benefit from cardiac rehabilitation if they have experienced any of the following:
- Heart attack
- Angina Bypass surgery
- Angioplasty Valve surgery
- Heart transplant and cardiomyopathy

Pulmonary Rehabilitation
Pulmonary rehabilitation is a safe and effective way to help the participant feel better, grow stronger, reduce stress and improve the quality of daily living. A patient can benefit from pulmonary rehabilitation if they have experienced any of the following:
- Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD)
- Asthma
- Emphysema
- Pulmonary fibrosis
- Pulmonary Hypertension
- Other pulmonary diseases
