Crozer-Keystone Health System and the Gift of Life Donor Program recently celebrated National Donate Life Month with a presentation and reception at Crozer-Chester Medical Center. This event is a celebration of Crozer-Keystone’s commitment to promoting organ and tissue donations.

Members of the Crozer-Keystone Regional Kidney Transplant Program were honored to kick-off Crozer-Keystone Health System's participation in Phase III of the Pennsylvania Donate Life Hospital Challenge on Friday, April 1. The challenge is an initiative of the Hospital and Health System Association of Pennsylvania (HAP) and the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA). During the presentation, Howard M. Nathan, president and CEO of the Gift of Life, gave a special recognition to Joell Alter, director of Transplant Marketing for Crozer-Keystone Health System, for his dedication and continuing efforts to promote transplant services.

Since 1974, the Gift of Life Donor Program has served as a link between donors and patients awaiting life-saving transplants in the eastern half of Pennsylvania, southern New Jersey and Delaware.

The need for more organ donors is still urgent. Today, there are nearly 6,500 patients in this region awaiting the gift of a life-saving organ transplant. For more information on organ and tissue donation, call the Gift of Life at 1-800-DONORS-1 or visit its website, www.donors1.org.

The challenge focuses on increasing awareness of the critical need for organ donors as well as the clinical integrity of the donation process. CKHS is proudly participating in the fourth year of the initiative, which runs from Apr. 1 to Aug. 31

Established in 1990, Crozer-Keystone Health System is the largest employer and provider of health-care services in Delaware County. The system comprises five hospitals as well as a network of primary-care and specialty practices and the Healthplex® Sports Club. Call 1-800-CK-HEALH or visit www.crozerkeystone.org for more information.
