Last week, pediatric chief resident, Anjalia Srivastava, M.D., MBA; along with fellow residents, Samantha Morrow, M.D., MPH; Carrie Wright, M.D. and Michael Perone, M.D.; traveled to the state capitol to promote funding for immunizations and support the Pennsylvania Immunization Coalition (PAIC).

PAIC held a press conference and informational session at the capitol building in Harrisburg, PA where they outlined the need for an increase in funding for regional coalitions to continue promoting vaccine advocacy and community immunity to prevent future outbreaks of preventable illnesses.

“I took away from today’s event that if 80 to 90 percent of children are immunized you could help prevent an outbreak. It is really important for the coalitions to continue their operations to promote immunization advocacy and compliance measures,” says Srivastava. The purpose of attending the press conference was to learn more about the program and how to reach legislators with their message.

Srivastava continues, “We learned a lot today about the Coalition and their efforts, and heard their plea to the state legislators. Anyone can get involved; it is easy, visit www.immunizepa.org for more information and an important cause.”

The Pennsylvania Immunization Coalition (PAIC) is an organization of volunteers consisting of individuals and organizations that have an interest in advancing the mission of timely and effective immunizations for all Pennsylvania residents.
