Crozer-Keystone Awarded with the Partners in Health Initiatives Award

DREXEL HILL, Pa. - Crozer-Keystone Health System has been chosen by the Volunteer Awards Selection Committee to be honored with the Partners in Health Initiatives Award at the 2013 American Cancer Society Southeast Region Volunteer Awards Celebration. This year’s celebration will be held on Tuesday, Oct. 29, 2013, from 6 – 9 p.m. at the Crown Plaza Hotel in King of Prussia.

The Partners in Health Initiatives Award is given to a healthcare organization to acknowledge a high level of commitment to the mission of the American Cancer Society. The recipient will have demonstrated outstanding efforts to link the American Cancer Society’s goals and priorities with the goals and priorities of the system represented. Recipients will have enabled the American Cancer Society to effectively reach large and varied audiences whom, without the aide and assistance of the partner, the American Cancer Society would not have been able to reach.

“We have been partners with the American Cancer Society for over 20 years. We feel by partnering with the ACS we are able to provide services that are important to our community,” says Marie DeStefano, R.N., M.S.N., FAAMA, senior administrative director of Oncology for Crozer-Keystone Health System. “By being able to develop educational programs for school-age children, we hope to have a direct effect on their lifestyle behaviors in an attempt to decrease the number of people affected by cancer. After all, our children and our community are our future.

“This award recognizes our long-term commitment to the community by providing education and early detection for cancer along with supportive services for the patients throughout the course of their treatment,” continues DeStefano. “In addition, it exemplifies to our patients our ongoing commitment to the overall health and wellness of the community, and our quest to bring educational programs and services into the community.”

Crozer-Keystone has achieved the following accomplishments in the last 20 years of collaboration with the American Cancer Society.

  • Through this partnership, Crozer-Keystone Health System has upheld the pillars of the Society, helping people stay well, get well, find cures and fight back through their collaborative efforts.
  • In 2013, Crozer-Keystone Health System set an unprecedented goal of increasing patient referrals to the American Cancer Society to 30 percent of unique patients at each Commission on Cancer-accredited hospitals (Delaware County Memorial Hospital and Crozer-Chester Medical Center).
  • In sum, through its support of research, education, advocacy, and service, Crozer-Keystone Health System has helped the American Cancer Society reach hundreds of patients who would not have otherwise been assisted. Crozer-Keystone Health System’s commitment to furthering their partnership with the Society and increasing the quality of life of patients and communities is evident in their exceptional history of service.
