Former Burn Patient Creates Walk/Run to Benefit Burn Patients at Crozer

Runners take off from the starting at the Heel the Burn event.

During the summer of 2008, Jackie Roberts spent almost five days in the Nathan Speare Regional Burn Treatment Center at Crozer-Chester Medical Center as a burn patient. Grateful for the excellent care she received, Roberts made a decision to give back. As a celebration to burn survivors, she decided to create a walk/run event called Heel the Burn.

The inaugural Heel the Burn event took place on June 12 at Washington Lake Park in Sewell, N.J. Over 100 walkers and runners joined in the 5K run/1 mile walk event in support of burn patients at Crozer. Children even participated in a special Kid’s Fun Run following the official race. Prizes were awarded to the top finishers. Attendees enjoyed refreshments and music.

Roberts intends to hold the run/walk every June to raise funds for the Burn Treatment Center and to celebrate her survivorship.
