In Brief

  • Crozer-Keystone recently partnered with text4baby, a free mobile information service designed to educate mothers about maternal and child health.
  • To register for the program, women can text the word BABY (or BEBE for Spanish) to 511411.
  • Once registered, women will receive information about taking care of themselves during their pregnancy and caring for their baby during their first year of life.

Crozer-Keystone recently partnered with text4baby, a free mobile information service designed to educate mothers about maternal and child health.

Text4baby, a program of the National Healthy Mothers, Healthy Babies Coalition (HMHB), provides information to pregnant women and new moms via text message. The information is about taking care of themselves during their pregnancy and caring for their baby during their first year of life.

To register for the program, women can text the word BABY (or BEBE for Spanish) to 511411. Women will be asked to enter their zip code as well as their baby’s due date or their baby’s birthday. Women receive up to three free SMS text messages each week, no matter what their cell phone provider is, timed to their due date or their baby’s date of birth. If the due date changes, women can text UPDATE to 511411 and enter a new date.

Crozer-Keystone’s Healthy Start, Nurse Family Partnership and Cribs for Kids outreach programs are partners of the service.

“It is an honor for our programs to support and partner with such an important informational service,” says Joanne Craig, administrative director of Women and Children's Health Services for Crozer-Keystone Health System. “We provide services to women throughout the area so that they can become more educated about their bodies, their health and their children’s health, and this program helps us to do that. It’s great that all women can access it, no matter what their financial status is. It’s a great tool to have throughout pregnancy and beyond.”

As a partner of the organization, Crozer-Keystone outreach programs signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the National Healthy Mothers, Healthy Babies Coalition.

The text4baby information that is sent to users’ cell phones were developed by the National Healthy Mothers, Healthy Babies Coalition (HMHB) in collaboration with federal partners, the cell phone industry, physicians and nurses, and national medical organizations.

“The text4baby program was a great way to get information and tips about the health of my new baby,” says Jessica Goerlach, a patient of Crozer-Keystone’s Midwives of Delaware County who began using the text4baby program in February. “My baby just turned 1, and the information provided from text4baby really helped me through some of that first year.”

The text4baby program launched in February of 2010. Information about the program can be found at www.text4baby.org. For assistance with program information or technical support, send the word HELP to 511411 or contact customer service at info@text4baby.org.

Every year, more newborn babies are welcomed into the world by the caring professionals at Crozer-Chester Medical Center and Delaware County Memorial Hospital than by any other health system in Delaware County.
