Giving back by advancing the research
Advances in modern medicine have continually increased the number of people who can benefit from organ transplantation. Donor numbers have not risen as quickly; which has led to a significant shortage of organs. Each year, 7,000 deceased donors make nearly 20,000 organ transplants possible. But with over 95,000 men, women, and children currently awaiting life-saving organ transplants, the need to increase awareness and promote organ donation is even greater.
Promoting organ donation can be as simple as speaking about it in the community, writing letters to local newspapers or even discussing it in social situations. United Network for Organ Sharing (UNOS) has a list of tips for helping you be a spokesperson for organ donation at www.unos.org. Your participation is completely voluntary.
You can also contribute financially to The Kidney Transplant Center at Crozer-Keystone. Your generous gift will be used to obtain important educational materials for transplant candidates and new equipment for patients' use and comfort while they are hospitalized. To speak to someone at Crozer-Keystone Health System about making a financial contribution, please contact the Kidney Transplant Team at 610-619-8420 or email email@example.com.
