Child Abuse Prevention
Child abuse and neglect can touch every community. It’s important to know and understand both the risk factors and warning signs of child abuse.
Risk factors for parents include, but are not limited to: isolation from family or community, difficulty controlling anger and stress, substance abuse, lack of interest in care or nourishment of children, and serious economic, housing, or personal problems.
Warning signs to look for in children consist of nervousness around adults, aggression, inability to concentrate for an extended amount of time, dramatic personality/activity changes, acting out sexually or having an interest in sex that is not age appropriate, frequent or unexplained bruises, low self esteem and poor hygiene.
