Nutritious Foods
WIC provides checks or vouchers for nutritious foods that can be used at any WIC authorized store in Pennsylvania. A family’s supplemental food package is determined by participant type, i.e., pregnant, postpartum, breastfeeding, infant, child, etc. and is printed on the vouchers.
The WIC food package is designed to include foods that contain protein, iron, vitamin A, vitamin C, and calcium such as:
- Fresh, frozen, and canned fruits and vegetables
- Whole grains (whole wheat bread/rolls, whole grain bread/rolls, brown rice, oats, or whole wheat/corn soft tortillas)
- Milk (regular and lactose-free as required)
- Soy beverage and tofu
- 100% fruit and/or vegetable juice
- Peanut butter
- Cheese
- Eggs
- Canned or dried beans and peas
- Cereal (half or whole grains)
- Iron-fortified infant formula
- Iron-fortified infant cereal
- Infant jarred fruits and vegetables
- Jarred infant meats (fully breastfed babies only)
- Canned chunk light tuna, pink salmon, & sardines (only fully breastfeeding women and women who are pregnant with multiple fetuses)
