Frequently Asked Questions

What is ACE?

Acute Care for Elders is an evidence-based practice that recognizes the specific and complex needs of aging patients, with specialized treatment designed to foster independent living.

Why ACE?

Studies have shown that older patients treated in ACE units tend to have shorter hospital stays and better outcomes. They maintain more of their ability to function independently. As a result, they are more often able to return to their former living arrangement.

Who is a good candidate for ACE?

The ACE program is designed for patients who are:

  • Over 65 years old
  • Have an acute illness or injury requiring hospitalization
  • Functioning independently with minimal support prior to their hospitalization
