2015 MLK Day of Service Partners with CUSD to Create Greater Volunteer Opportunities

The MLK Commemorative Committee of Chester & Vicinity has coordinated enhanced volunteer opportunities associated with the 2015 MLK Day of Service to accommodate increased demand that was evident during this past year’s event. Through a partnership with the Chester Upland School District (CUSD), volunteers will have the opportunity to assist with mural art, bulletin board creation and general maintenance inside all 6 CUSD schools from 9 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 19. Volunteers will be assigned to a specific school and all volunteer details will be determined prior to the day of service. If you are interested in signing up to volunteer, please email Aubrey Proud with Crozer-Keystone at Aubrey.Proud@crozer.org. Volunteer opportunities are limited and will be handled on a first come, first serve basis.

In addition to these volunteer opportunities, event details are being finalized through city and community partners to return to the Boys and Girls Club of Chester from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Family-friendly activities are expected to include the creation of care packages for those in need in Delco, arts & crafts, educational sessions, a health & wellness fair, an essay and poster contest, lots of community spirit and more.

Following the morning activities, the community is invited to attend a 1 p.m. ceremonial wreath-laying on the campus of Crozer-Chester Medical Center in front of the Old Main Building where Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King studied when he was in the Crozer Theological Seminary. The day’s activities will conclude with a public event inside the Clark Auditorium at 2 p.m. on the Crozer campus featuring a presentation from Rev. Dr. Willie E. Robinson of the Mount Pleasant Baptist Church in Twin Oaks, Pa.
