What You Will Learn

This seminar will provide supervisors with the basic training on how to deal with substance abuse in the workplace. It is designed to help you:

  • Detect and appropriately respond to the physical, behavioral, speech and performance indicators of probable drug abuse and alcohol misuse.
  • Document reasonable suspicion of substance abuse.
  • Be better prepared to respond to confrontation.
  • Address other workplace substance abuse issues.

Who Will Benefit from This Training?

This training is recommended for employers whose programs must comply with the Drug-Free Workplace Act of 1988. It also meets the Department of Transportation and Non-Federal Training Standards.

This training is also appropriate for non-regulated employers who have a zero-tolerance for substance abuse as stipulated in your drug/alcohol policy. If a supervisor can request an employee to present for reasonable suspicion drug/alcohol testing, it would be important to have documentation that the supervisor has been trained in recognizing signs and symptoms of abuse.

Please take a moment to re-evaluate your program to make sure that new existing supervisors have completed supervisory training. The DOT accepts proof of Supervisory Training from another employer. This would be good time to verify and document the status of your supervisors in an effort to maintain compliance.
