Medical Oncology

Medical oncologists are involved in the care of most cancer patients, working closely with primary care physicians and other cancer specialists to provide primary cancer treatment, continuous follow-up, consultations, and help to create plans for cancer management.

Our medical oncologists use chemotherapy, immunotherapy and hormonal therapy, including targeted therapy and the use of growth inhibitors) to treat cancer.

If cancer is detected in your biopsy, your care will be transferred to the experienced team of physicians and medical professionals at one of our Regional Cancer Centers. Our cancer care teams offers comprehensive services for the prevention, diagnosis, treatment and support care of patients.

The Crozer Regional Cancer Center has been approved by the Commission on Cancer of the American College of Surgeons as a Comprehensive Teaching Hospital. It is also certified by the Association of Community Cancer Centers.

Interventional Radiology

For women diagnosed with breast cancer who cannot undergo invasive surgery, noninsvasive interventional radiology may be an option for them. Crozer-Keystone's expert team of interventional radiologists offer the following non-surgical treatments for breast cancer.

For cancerous tumors, radiofrequency ablation offers a nonsurgical, localized treatment that kills the tumor cells with heat, while sparing the healthy breast tissue. Side effects of this treatment are minimal and most people can resume their usual activities in a few days.

In this procedure, interventional radiologists use imaging to guide a small needle through the skin into the tumor. From the tip of the needle, radiofrequency energy is transmitted into the target tissue, where it produces heat and kills the tumor. Most patients experienced mild to moderate discomfort during treatment. Following the procedure, the dead tumor tissue shrinks and slowly forms an internal scar. There is no scar from this procedure.

Radiation Oncology

Our radiation oncologists and their teams are skilled in both standard and advanced radiation therapy techniques, which can be used alone or in combination with other treatments.

The exact type of radiation used is determined by the cancer’s location, type, stage and treatment parameters. We offer both external beam therapies, such as Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT), and internal radiation therapy, such as high- or low-dose-rate brachytherapy.

In addition, our radiation oncologists treat patients at Philadelphia CyberKnife in Havertown, the region’s most experienced robotic radiosurgery center.

Surgical Oncology

A surgical biopsy is often required to determine whether or not a person has breast cancer, and surgery is often the means by which a tumor is removed.

We are proud to offer the latest advanced cancer care procedures and technologies, such as minimally invasive surgeries, sentinel lymph node mapping, neuronavigation, cryoablation and the da Vinci Robotic Surgical System (located at Crozer-Chester Medical Center).
