Ultrasound

Ultrasound imaging is also called ultrasound scanning or sonography and is based on the same principles involved in the sonar used by ships at sea. Ultrasound "sees" inside the human body through the use of high frequency sound waves.  The sound waves go into the patient's body and bounce off the area to be studied, creating a picture on a TV monitor.  These images are recorded and displayed as a real time visual image. No radiation is involved in ultrasound imaging.
