Medical Oncology

Medical oncology is the treatment of cancer using medication and treatment methods other than radiation. Working closely with other cancer specialists, medical oncologists provide primary cancer treatment, continuous follow-up, consultations and help to create plans for cancer management.

Medical oncology also includes access to clinical research trials, genetic screening, palliative care and pain management.

Chemoembolization

During chemoembolization, chemotherapeutic drugs are delivered directly to cancerous tissue.

Chemotherapy

Chemotherapy is the use of drugs to kill cancer cells. Chemotherapy may be taken by mouth or it may be put into the body by injection. Either type of chemotherapy is called systemic treatment because the drugs enter the bloodstream, travel through the body, and can kill cancer cells throughout the body.

Cryoablation

Cryoablation involves the controlled freezing of a particular organ or area of a patient’s body to destroy cancer cells. Crozer surgeons use this procedure to treat a range of tumors.

Hormonal Therapy

Hormonal therapy is a type of cancer treatment that involves the use of hormones to treat cancers of the female and male reproductive systems.

Immunotherapy

Immunotherapy involves the use of the body's own immune system to treat cancer. Immunotherapy is an attempt to get your own body to fight cancer by using materials made by your own body, or made in a laboratory, to boost, direct, or restore your natural defenses against disease.
