Located at Crozer-Chester Medical Center, the four-story Cancer Center opened in 2001, bringing advanced technology, programs and services together in one location and providing a level of care that rivals any university-based cancer center in the world.
As part of the Crozer-Keystone Health System, the Cancer Center houses comprehensive diagnostic and treatment programs, as well as prevention, education and complementary treatment resources in one location.
Our approach to treating people with cancer is based upon a patient’s individual needs. To meet these needs, a team of specialists that may include medical oncologists, surgeons, pathologists and radiation oncologists provides coordinated treatments for patients.
The Cancer Center is designed to not only deliver high tech treatments, but to soothe the spirit. Interior gardens, waterfalls and other features offer patients a brief haven from the outside world.
Diagnosis
Detecting cancer at its earliest stages is key to a successful treatment outcome. Crozer-Chester Medical Center offers advanced diagnostic and pathologic equipment and techniques to diagnose cancer.
We were the first in Delaware County to obtain access to a new mobile PET/CT scanner, which combines positron emission tomography (PET) and computed tomography (CT) to accurately detect cancer and pinpoint its exact location in the body. To detect cancer, we also use a range of medical imaging modalities, including:
- Digital mammography
- Open-bore MRI and 64-slice CT
- Surgical biopsies
- Interventional radiology
Medical oncology
Medical oncologists are involved in the care of most cancer patients, working closely with primary care physicians and other cancer specialists to provide primary cancer treatment, continuous follow-up, consultations, and to help to create plans for cancer management. Our medical oncologists use chemotherapy, immunotherapy (including targeted therapy and the use of growth inhibitors) and hormonal therapy to treat cancer.
Radiation oncology
We offer both external beam therapies, such as Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT), as well as internal radiation therapy such as high- or low-dose-rate brachytherapy.
In addition, our radiation oncologists treat patients at Philadelphia CyberKnife in Havertown, the region’s most experienced robotic radiosurgery center.
Surgical oncology
A wide range of surgical specialties are represented at the Crozer Regional Cancer Center, including general, breast, colorectal, gynecologic, head and neck, neurosurgery, plastic, thoracic and urologic.
We are proud to offer the latest procedures and technologies, such as minimally invasive surgeries, sentinel lymph node mapping, neuronavigation, cryoablation and the da Vinci® Robotic Surgical System.
Site-specific cancer programs
We are proud to offer specialized expertise and services for some of the most prevalent cancer sites, including breast, colorectal, lung, gynecologic and prostate.
Support for mind and spirit
Crozer offers a variety of support services for patients and their families, including supportive counseling, symptom management, nutritional counseling, home care/hospice services and more.
Additional specialized services include genetic counseling (through our Prevention and Risk of Cancer Assessment program), fatigue management (through our Proactive Energy Program), personal appearance enhancement and nurse navigators.
Research & education
Crozer offers patients access to the latest clinical trials. Our physicians also train the cancer professionals of the future as professors at regional universities and through Crozer-Keystone residency programs.
