Services are provided in the Cancer Center’s convenient and serene surroundings. The interior is designed not only to deliver cancer care in the most efficient manner possible, but also to soothe the spirit.
The Cancer Center has been approved by the Commission on Cancer of the American College of Surgeons as a Comprehensive Teaching Hospital. It is also certified by the Association of Community Cancer Centers.
Medical oncologists are involved in the care of most cancer patients, working closely with primary care physicians and other cancer specialists to provide primary cancer treatment, continuous follow-up, consultations, and help to create plans for cancer management.
Our medical oncologists use chemotherapy, immunotherapy (including targeted therapy and the use of growth inhibitors), and hormonal therapy to treat cancer.
Our radiation oncologists and their teams are skilled in both standard and advanced radiation therapy techniques, which can be used alone or in combination with other treatments.
The exact type of radiation used is determined by the cancer’s location, type, stage and treatment parameters. We offer both external beam therapies, such as Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT), and internal radiation therapy, such as high- or low-dose-rate brachytherapy.
In addition, our radiation oncologists treat patients at Philadelphia CyberKnife in Havertown, the region’s most experienced robotic radiosurgery center.
A surgical biopsy is often required to determine whether or not a person has breast cancer, and surgery is often the means by which a tumor is removed.
We are proud to offer the latest procedures and technologies, such as minimally invasive surgeries, sentinel lymph node mapping, neuronavigation, cryoablation and the da Vinci Robotic Surgical System (located at Springfield Hospital).
