On July 1, 2016, Delaware County Memorial Hospital welcomed Stephen M. Humbert, D.O. as president of the medical staff. He succeeds Thomas F. Prestel Jr., M.D., whose two-year term expired on June 30, 2016.

Humbert looks forward to meeting the high expectations set by his predecessor. He says, “I was very grateful and lucky to have mentored under Dr. Prestel; he always had the hospital and medical staff as his top priority. He was the medical staff president during a difficult time in Delaware County Memorial Hospital’s history. Dr. Prestel did an excellent job at keeping the staff abreast of ongoing changes. I know I will be reaching out to Dr. Prestel as well as my vice president, Dr. Steven Troy, for advice and help going forward.”

Having worked at Delaware County Memorial Hospital for the past 21 years, Humbert is a well-known face throughout the DCMH community. He has watched the hospital grow and change over the past couple of decades, this year in particular. However, Humbert states the one thing that has remained constant is “the dedication, passion, and caring of our staff ─ from the physicians, PAs, nurses, patient care techs, and all others ─ in trying to provide the best patient care possible.”

Humbert is a member of the American College of Physicians, American Osteopathic Association and Pennsylvania Osteopathic Medical Association. For the past 20 years, he has served as Utilization Medical Director for DCMH, and for the past 10 years, he has served as Medical Director of the Patient Safety Program.

In looking toward the future, one of the programs that Humbert plans to focus his attention on is Crozer-Keystone’s growing cancer program. He affirms that the program is set up to be one of the best in this area and beyond, and pledges to do his part to expand and promote it. Humbert also intends to champion the “great, efficient and personalized medical care” at Crozer-Keystone’s hospitals to his peers. He promises to do everything in his power to continue to nurture and expand the positive culture that exists at DCMH with the help and guidance of Crozer-Keystone’s new leadership as part of Prospect Medical Holdings.

Humbert has resided in Drexel Hill since age five. “I have a deep-rooted understanding of the local community where I still take care of patients who I grew up with,” he says. “When you can run into patients or their families at a local store, you have that much more of a reason to be invested in your job and your patients.” Humbert and his wife, Lisa, have four children: Steve, Matt, Chris and Daniella. In addition to spending time with his family, two dogs and chinchilla, Humbert enjoys tennis, golf and fishing.

Steven Troy, D.O., DCMH OB/GYN, will serve as vice president of the DCMH medical staff. Gregory Cuculino, M.D., chair of the Department of Emergency Medicine, will continue to serve as secretary; and Thomas A. DiLiberto, D.O., chair of the Department of Radiology, will continue to serve as treasurer.
