Crozer-Keystone Recognizes Noreen Ruddy, R.N. as a DAISY Award Recipient

Noreen Ruddy, R.N. is recognized as a DAISY Award recipient, and is congratulated by a team of nurses and administrators on her accomplishment.

Crozer-Keystone Health System recently recognized Noreen Ruddy, R.N. of Folsom, a nurse on the fifth floor at Delaware County Memorial Hospital in Drexel Hill, as a recipient of the DAISY Award. Nurses that receive this significant accomplishment are chosen based on their ability to consistently meet all of the following criteria: Dedicated, Autonomous, Innovative, Selfless and Extraordinary.  Ruddy was nominated by a patient for this award.

Ruddy provided compassionate care for this patient a few months ago on a Sunday evening that became a positive turning point and recovery moment for the patient. Realizing that the patient required additional attention due to her medical situation, Ruddy visited this patient’s room numerous times that evening included offering to provide a sponge bath and to change the bedding. In the words of the patient, “Everything was done with a smile and TLC. I am sure that she never took a break that evening as her only concern was her patients. She is a wonderful nurse and one of the kindest human beings I have ever met.”

Eileen Young, M.S.N., R.N., chief nursing officer for Crozer-Keystone, commented, “Noreen Ruddy exemplifies the type of nurse the Barnes family was seeking to recognize when they created the DAISY award.”

Daisy Foundation and Daisy Award

The not-for-profit DAISY Foundation was established by family members in memory of J. Patrick Barnes, who died in 1999 at the age of 33 from complications from an auto-immune disease. The care that Barnes and his family received from nurses while he was ill inspired this unique means of thanking nurses for making a profound difference in the lives of their patients and patient families.

Each DAISY Award Honoree is recognized at a public ceremony on his or her unit and receives a certificate, a DAISY Award pin and a beautifully hand-carved stone sculpture. In addition, the unit celebrates their colleague’s achievement with Cinnabon cinnamon rolls which were a favorite of Patrick’s during his illness.
