Crozer-Chester Medical Center Emergency Department nurse Lindsey Fitz, R.N., was recently awarded the 2015 Justin Methven Award for Excellence in Trauma Nursing by Crozer-Keystone Health System.

The recipient of this annual honor is nominated by his or her peers for exemplary clinical practice. The nursing staffs of trauma-designated practice areas within the medical center are eligible for this award.

Fitz was presented with the award at the 20th Annual Trauma Symposium held at Crozer. First awarded in 1997, the Justin Methven Award honors the son of retired Crozer-Chester Medical Center trauma nurse Leo Methven and his wife, Barbara. Justin Methven died tragically in a 1996 motor vehicle accident. The Crozer-Chester Foundation at Crozer established the Justin Methven Memorial Fund at the request of his family.

A second generation Crozer-Chester Medical Center nurse, Fitz received praise from her peers as part of the nomination process. “She shows confidence and leadership,” wrote one of her co-workers. “She is always there in the heart of the excitement helping to comfort, care for and save the patient.”

In addition to being a Registered Nurse (R.N.), Lindsey has earned her Advanced Trauma Care for Nurses (ATCN) designation. She participates in daily rounds at Crozer and remains up to date in her field by attending various trauma professional conferences.

The Crozer Regional Trauma Center at Crozer-Chester Medical Center meets the high standards required to earn its designation as a Regional Level II Trauma Center by the Pennsylvania Trauma Systems Foundation. The only trauma center in Delaware County, the Crozer Trauma Center treats more than 2,400 trauma and burn patients every year.
