Crozer-Chester Medical Center’s staffing continues to rank above average for hospitals nationwide.

considered essential.

We are very pleased that the nurses in the Pennsylvania Association of Staff Nurses & Allied Professionals have voted to ratify a new contract with Crozer-Chester Medical Center.

We appreciate that the nurses were willing to compromise. The result is a contract that will help the Medical Center meet its ongoing financial challenges and fulfill its mission of improving the health of those we serve.

The new five-year contract contains many provisions the Medical Center considered essential. Although no current nurse will see a reduction in base rate as a result of this contract, there will be a one-year wage freeze and the contract contains a new and more sustainable wage scale. The Defined Benefit Pension Plan will be permanently frozen as of July 31, 2015 and all eligible nurses will enter the Defined Contribution Plan. Retiree medical, life insurance, and sick bank payout will end. Nurses will enter the same medical insurance plan as other Crozer-Keystone employees.

The contract does not contain any new provisions on nurse staffing or ratios for hospital units. Crozer-Chester Medical Center’s staffing continues to rank above average for hospitals nationwide based on benchmarks established by National Database of Nursing Quality Indicators (NDNQI). The hospital did agree to add a multidisciplinary transport team to assist in monitoring patients when they leave their rooms for diagnostic testing.

We deeply appreciate the patience of our employees, our physicians, our patients and our community throughout this challenging time.
