Crozer-Keystone Health System named Teresa Devlin, R.N., the DAISY Award Recipient. The DAISY Award is a nationwide program that rewards and celebrates nurses that consistently meet all of the following criteria: Dedicated, Autonomous, Innovative, Selfless and Extraordinary.

DAISY Award Honorees personify Crozer-Keystone Health System’s remarkable patient experience. The honoree’s clinical skill and especially compassionate care exemplify the kind of nurse that our patients, their families and our staff recognize as an outstanding role model.

“I would like to thank the nurse (Terry) for comforting me when I was most fearful. Thank you for feeding me when I could not feed myself. What a caring, loving person she is and an excellent nurse,” says the patient that nominated Devlin for this award.

Devlin and her colleagues on 2 South at Crozer-Chester Medical Center were treated to lunch, Cinnabon® cinnamon rolls and cake to celebrate. Consistent with the qualities of a DAISY award, Devlin even served cake to all her patients and their families to include them in the celebration.

The not-for-profit national DAISY Foundation was established by family members in memory of J. Patrick Barnes, who died in 1999 at the age of 33 from complications of an auto-immune disease. The care that Barnes and his family received from nurses while he was ill inspired this unique means of thanking nurses for making a profound difference in the lives of their patients and patient families.

Each DAISY Award Honoree is recognized at a public ceremony on his or her unit, and receives certificate, a DAISY Award pin and a beautiful hand-carved stone sculpture. Additionally, the unit will celebrate with Cinnabon cinnamon rolls – a favorite of Patrick’s during his illness.
