In 2013, Raymond J. Vivacqua, M.D., chief of Hematology/Oncology at Crozer-Chester Medical Center and medical director of the Crozer Regional Cancer Center, created the Crozer Cancer Project Team (CCPT) to help raise funds for the center through ongoing fundraising events held on a monthly basis.

Over the past two years, the CCPT has held many diverse events that all have a goal of raising funds to ensure that the programs and services at the Cancer Center continue to provide comprehensive, leading edge, accessible and compassionate cancer care for patients in the region. Additional Crozer-Keystone physicians that join Dr. Vivacqua with his event-planning efforts regularly include Mary Lou Patton, M.D. and John P. Lamond, M.D.

“The events through the CCPT have allowed us to strengthen existing relationships within the community, and in many cases we have been able to develop new relationships on the individual, entertainment and business level,” says Dr. Vivacqua. “We are looking forward to our future events as opportunities for continued relationship building, and on a day to day basis, we continue to provide the vital cancer care that our local community requires.”

It is an unfortunate reality that cancer affects everyone in one way or another, whether it’s a friend, family member or themselves. Knowing that the subject matter can often lead to sadness, the CCPT chooses to create fun and engaging events where everyone is welcome to attend. Examples of past fundraising events have included Phillies games, Dinners at popular local restaurants, Theatre performances and the Care2Cure 5K Walk/Run at Crozer Medical Plaza each October. These events, especially the 5K Walk/Run, requires an entire team’s focus to handle all of the logistics necessary, and the CCPT is fortunate to have Wanda McCue volunteer to lead a majority of the event management requirements.
