Christopher Stenberg, MBChB, FAAP, chair of Pediatrics at Crozer-Chester Medical Center, was named Chief Academic Officer and Designated Institutional Official for Crozer-Keystone Health System.

Stenberg is a board-certified pediatrician who earned his medical degree from the University of Auckland, New Zealand. He completed an internship and pediatric training at Waikato Hospital, Hamilton, New Zealand and was a Pediatric Registrar at Prince of Wales Children’s Hospital in Sydney, Australia. In addition, he served as the director of Ambulatory Pediatrics at the Barbara Bush Children’s Hospital in Portland, Maine.

“Both the undergraduate and graduate medical programs were strengthened under former director Dr. Guy Hewlett,” Stenberg says. “Going forward, we are looking to further enhance our relationship with the Temple University School of Medicine and other area programs. We are also looking to build our new Emergency Medicine residency programs in transition and work on the transition of osteopathic residency training into the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) by July 2017.” One of Stenberg’s and the program’s main goals is to foster an environment where residents and fellows want to come back and work for Crozer-Keystone Health System at the completion of their training.

Stenberg would like to see more training opportunities throughout the organization for residents and medical students, including outside students interested in attending our residency programs. He also looks to strengthen relationships with local hospital residency programs in order to build for a stronger future. “We would like to improve on our relationship-building. We want to continue to partner with the best hospitals in the area,” he says.

The program already has a great structure to build on, according to Stenberg. “Our greatest assets are our dedicated teams of residency program directors and coordinators, and our medical student clerkship directors,” Stenberg says. “I have always been in awe of the way we train doctors. There is a clear focus on education and I want to see that education is not just maintained and improved, but that it continues to be improved at Crozer-Keystone.”

Crozer-Keystone Health System offers numerous challenging and fully accredited residency programs. Our residency programs include Emergency Medicine, Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, OB/GYN, Osteopathic Internship, Pediatrics, Podiatry and Transitional.
