Crozer-Keystone now offers patients 3D mammography, also known as tomosynthesis, at Brinton Lake Imaging in Glen Mills and Delaware County Memorial Hospital (DCMH). The health system will offer the technology at Crozer-Chester Medical Center, Media Medical Imaging in Media and Springfield Hospital in the near future.

Conventional mammography takes images of the breasts from two angles. In 3D mammography, the scanner moves in an arc over the breasts, taking images from various angles to produce sharper, more detailed images.

The benefits of 3D mammography include:

  • Greater accuracy in pinpointing size, shape and location of abnormalities
  • Possible detection of more invasive cancers that cannot be found with 2D mammography
  • Reduction of call-backs

3D mammography is most recommended for women of all ages, but especially for:

  • Those between the ages of 40-50
  • Those who are peri- and post-menopausal
  • Those who have very dense breasts
  • Those who have a history of breast cancer

2D mammography will continue to be offered to patients who require it.

Appointments are now available at Brinton Lake Imaging, Delaware County Memorial Hospital (DCMH) and Media Medical Imaging. Request an appointment for any medical imaging service at any CKHS facility 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Call 1-866-5-CK-XRAY (1-866-525-9729) or use our online appointment request form.
