Springfield Hospital Receives “Safety Across the Board” Excellence Award

Springfield Hospital exceeded target goals
on at least two-thirds of the Partnership
for Patients’ (PfP) event areas.

Springfield Hospital was one of only 26 acute care hospitals in the state presented with the “Safety Across the Board” Excellence Award from the Hospital & Health System Association of Pennsylvania (HAP) at HAP’s Annual Patient Safety & Quality Symposium on Sept. 3 in Lancaster.

HAP’s Pennsylvania Hospital Engagement Network (PA-HEN) created this award to recognize participating organizations’ achievement of exceptional performance and participation in the PA-HEN’s and Partnership for Patients’ (PfP) program goals of reducing preventable harm and readmissions. To qualify for the award, a hospital must meet both performance and participation criteria for acute care hospitals.

Springfield Hospital exceeded target goals on at least two-thirds of the PfP event areas. Exceptional performance was noted in the following areas:

  • Prevention of Central Line-Associated Blood Stream Infections
  • Prevention of Surgical Site Infections
  • Pressure Ulcer Prevention
  • Prevention of Readmissions
  • Prevention of Ventilator-Associated Events

The “Safety across the Board” award was presented to 26 acute care hospitals and nine non-acute care organizations across the state of Pennsylvania.

“Pennsylvania hospitals are to be commended for the accomplishments achieved to date,” said HAP President and CEO Andy Carter. “The PA-HEN’s teamwork, effective leadership practices, accountability, and patient-centered care principles have assisted Pennsylvania hospitals with moving closer toward the vision of a healthy Pennsylvania through improved patient safety and quality of care.”

”Springfield Hospital makes patient safety its main focus. This safety excellence award affirms that those dedicated and compassionate efforts are making a difference and that our performance level is exceeding standards,” says Gwen Smith, RN, CCRN, MSM, MBA, president of Springfield Hospital and vice president of Community Health Services for the Crozer-Keystone Health System.

“Our goal is to continue excelling in those areas of expertise and expand our focus to achieve high marks in all areas of patient care from entering the hospital to discharge. We are honored to have received this award. Without the dedication of the staff for their constant, hard work and dedication to the safety of our patients this would not have been possible,” says Eric Dobkin, M.D., FACS, FCCM, chief quality officer, vice president of Quality and Patient Safety, Crozer-Keystone Health System.
