Crozer-Keystone Health System (CKHS), the largest employer and healthcare provider in Delaware County, is exploring whether its mission of providing healthcare to the people of Delaware County is best met by remaining independent or by seeking a partner.

“As Crozer-Keystone Health System makes the changes needed to succeed in a rapidly evolving healthcare landscape, we remain focused on ensuring that the health system is able to meet the healthcare needs of the people of Delaware County,” said Joan K. Richards, Crozer-Keystone president and chief executive officer.

“The Crozer-Keystone Board of Directors is working proactively with skilled, experienced advisors, Kaufman, Hall & Associates, to take a careful, deliberate approach to ensuring that CKHS remains prepared for the future,” says Bruce Fischer, chairman of the Crozer-Keystone Board of Directors.

Changes in the nation’s healthcare system are transforming the way care is delivered. Hospital admissions are declining across the United States, with the shift continuing away from inpatient care to observation status and outpatient care. Anticipating this, CKHS has been enhancing our outpatient service delivery model, while continuing to improve patient outcomes.

“CKHS has consistently and will continue to remain focused on meeting the healthcare needs of our community. Being proactive in exploring our options is in keeping with this focus. We take our responsibility—to the people of Delaware County, our physicians and our 6,000 dedicated employees—very seriously. We are announcing this decision because we are being transparent in our efforts to proactively plan for the future,” adds Richards.

Crozer-Keystone Health System provides a full spectrum of wellness, prevention, acute care, rehabilitation and restorative care to the community. The health system comprises five hospitals, several outpatient facilities, a comprehensive physician network of primary-care and specialty practices, and the Healthplex® Sports Club.
