Angel Flight Names Herbert Schiffer, D.O., the Altman Family Pilot of the Year
Angel Flight East, a Blue Bell-based provider of free air transportation for medically needy patients, named Crozer-Chester Medical Center physician Herbert Schiffer, D.O. the Altman Family Pilot of the Year during the 6th Annual On Angels’ Wings Gala on May 2, 2014.

Year award from Adam Zucker, Esq., President of the
Board of Trustees, Angel Flight East (right).
When not working as a physician in the Emergency Department at Crozer-Chester Medical Center or serving as medical director for Crozer EMS South, Schiffer enjoys his free time as a private pilot. However, he donates most of his flight time to Angel Flight East, a non-profit dedicated to facilitating free air transportation for children and adults with medical conditions who need to get to treatment far from home.
The Altman Family Pilot of the Year Award recognizes the pilot who demonstrates a superior generosity and love for aviation and represents the organization’s mission. The award also takes into consideration the number of flights the pilot has flown in the past year. Schiffer not only flew the most miles (7,300 nm), but he is known as the “go-to pilot” for very long or hard-to-fill flights. He was awarded in recognition of his generous spirit and the sacrifice he makes in both time and resources to help Angel Flight East provide “Hope in Flight”.
Angel Flight East facilitates transportation in the Eastern region of the United States, and for destinations beyond our reach, we link with other volunteer pilot organizations. Volunteer pilots use their private planes to fly patients to their destinations.
