My Crozer-Keystone Story: Colleen Biddle, Breast Cancer Survivor

Why I love CKHS

“I believe that I am receiving not only professional but personal care. Being able to feel comfortable with my doctors has made all the difference.”

Background

Colleen Biddle

Colleen Biddle, Upper Chichester

In 2013, Colleen Biddle, 45, of Thornton, PA was diagnosed with breast cancer after going in for her routine screening mammogram. She is married to her husband of 26 years and they have one daughter who recently graduated from college. Colleen is also a teacher in her local school district at Hilltop Elementary in Upper Chichester, PA. Today, Colleen tells us how she received such great support and care from not only her family and school community, but also from her team of doctors and the entire Crozer-Keystone staff.

“It all started when I went in for a routine mammogram at Crozer Brinton Lake. They ended up doing a biopsy to test for ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS), which is considered the earliest form of breast cancer. After running further tests, including an MRI, I was diagnosed with invasive ductal carcinoma (IDC). I was shocked at my diagnosis because I am not a smoker and there was no history of breast cancer in my family. For treatment, I underwent a double mastectomy with reconstruction. I had a great team of doctors to help me, including Dr. Rashmi Sanjay as my oncologist, Dr. Robert Guilday as my surgeon and Dr. Thomas Jacob as my plastic surgeon.

I have used Crozer-Keystone for other medical services, including the birth of my daughter. I did not even hesitate to choose Crozer because I was confident with the doctors, treatment and care I would receive. The staff at Crozer-Chester Medical Center and every other Crozer-Keystone facility was extremely accommodating in every way. I could call them with any questions or concerns, at any time, and they were more than happy to help me. One night, I was rushed to the hospital for an emergency admittance due to an infection. When I arrived, the doctors and nurses were prepared and ready to treat me right away. Over the next few days, Dr. Jacob checked on me every morning and every night to make sure I was doing OK and was comfortable.”
