DCMH to Host New Jersey Blood Services Blood Drive on November 4
DREXEL HILL, Pa. - Delaware County Memorial Hospital, in conjunction with the New Jersey Blood Services (NJBS), a division of New York Blood Center, will sponsor a blood drive on Thursday, Nov. 4 from 7 a.m.-7 p.m. in Meeting Rooms A & C of the hospital, located at 501 N. Lansdowne Avenue, Drexel Hill. To make an appointment to donate, please call (610) 284-8630. Every person who donates blood at DCMH on Nov. 4 will receive a free T-shirt.
Most healthy people who are at least 16 years old and weigh 110 pounds or more are eligible to donate every 56 days. There is no substitute for human blood. One in three people will need blood sometime during their lives. Blood lasts only 42 days, so your donation is critically important.
Make your donation go farther by becoming an ALYX donor. ALYX is an automated red blood cell donation system which allows you to donate two units of critically needed red cells in just one visit, saving two lives each time! To qualify as an ALYX donor, males need to be at least 5’1” and weigh at least 130 lbs. Females must be at least 5’5” and weigh at least 150 lbs. This is because men and women have different total blood volumes and because of this difference, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has established different donor requirements. You can donate red cells on our ALYX system every 112 days or 16 weeks.
For information about donating blood and for questions about qualifying to become a blood donor, call 1-800-933-2566 or visit www.nybloodcenter.org.
