Fertility Center Introduces New Plans Aimed at Affordability, Success

In vitro fertilization (IVF) treatments are usually given in “cycles” that include a range of related diagnostic and laboratory services. If a couple does not achieve pregnancy after the first cycle, they have the option to elect for additional cycles. However, because the additional cycles are traditionally offered at the same cost as the first cycle, the escalating costs can often limit the patients’ opportunities for additional treatments.

Under the Crozer Reproductive Endocrinology and Fertility Center's new multi-cycle plans, patients can pre-pay for two or three IVF cycles. The packages bundle all of the related services together, helping the patient achieve substantial cost savings compared to if they were to pay for the services individually.

“Our patients have peace of mind from knowing that they will receive the highest quality of fertility care at the most affordable pricing when they commit to one of our multi-cycle packages. Patients are more relaxed from the onset with the knowledge that they have multiple chances to achieve a pregnancy and take home a baby,” says Albert El-Roeiy, M.D., medical director of the Fertility Center.

In addition to making sense financially, the multi-cycle packages can also make a difference clinically.

“The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention have found that success rates improve dramatically when IVF treatment is adopted as a treatment rather than a one-time attempt,” El-Roeiy says.

The IVF services included in the multi-cycle packages include:

  • Monitoring of IVF ovarian stimulation of the patient (ultrasounds, estradiol and progesterone blood test)
  • Physician services
  • Nursing visits for teaching the administration of medication for IVF
  • Oocytes retrieval and embryos transfer procedures
  • IVF facility fees
  • IVF laboratory services
  • Preparation for fertilization process
  • Facility charges

Couples who choose one of the packages will be treated up to 12 months for the two-cycle package, and up to 16 months for the three-cycle package. Both the two- and three-cycle packages include up to two frozen embryo transfers (FET) cycles at no additional cost. The FETs must be complete within the 12-month and 16-month treatment windows for the packages.

To increase the chances of pregnancy and to decrease the chances of each fresh in vitro fertilization treatment (IVF) trail, each program offers the use of cryopreserved embryos. There is an additional storage fee for cryopreserved embryos.

Patients are also given other cost-effective options for a single cycle and fertility medications. If the couple decides that the multi-cycle program is the best solution and becomes pregnant after the first cycle, the Fertility Center is happy to continue storing their frozen embryos for the 12-month and 16-month window of enrollment and then gives the patient the opportunity to store their unused embryos for a fee.

To qualify for this program, the female patient must be younger than 43 years old, and couples must be capable of, and committed to, completing the program in the 12-16 month time limit. Patients are expected to follow all of the physician’s instructions and to tightly adhere to medication protocols both during IVF treatment and during their pregnancy until medically released from the physician’s care.

It is important to note that although the multi-cycle payment options provide for performing repeat fresh IVF cycles at a discounted rate, the plans do not offer any guarantees or refund of fees if a live birth does not occur.

“Despite the use of multiple IVF attempts, it is well documented that success rates for IVF generally vary depending on a large number of factors, including the underlying female diagnosis, the presence or absence of a male factor, the age of the female and the quality and grade of embryos transferred,” El-Roeiy says.

About the Fertility Center

The Crozer Reproductive Endocrinology and Fertility Center uses the latest technologies to achieve consistently outstanding clinical pregnancy rates and treat essentially all reproductive abnormalities relating to infertility in men and women. In addition to in vitro fertilization, the Center offers Preimplantation Genetic Diagnosis. This procedure permits testing on embryos before they are transferred to the mother, which may be important to couples who may have concerns about advanced maternal age, a history of miscarriage and known family genetic abnormalities or diseases.

Since 2007, the center has also provided the option of freezing eggs taken from women at a younger age, or women who were diagnosed with cancer and need to go through treatments with chemotherapy or radiotherapy to be utilized later in life when they are ready to have a family.

The Center is known for its commitment to women’s health, including management of fibroids, chronic pelvic pain, endometriosis, polycystic ovarian syndrome, premature ovarian failure and hormonal abnormalities.
