CKHS New Moms/New Parents Project Tip of the Month

It’s important for women of childbearing age between the ages of 13-44 to consume a multivitamin that contains a supplement of folic acid. Folic acid is a naturally occurring B vitamin that helps a baby's neural tube. It must be taken before and during early pregnancy when the neural tube is developing. Folic acid helps protect your body from heart disease, cervical and colon cancer, and possibly breast cancer. It’s recommended that women take 400 micrograms of folic acid every day. Folic acid can also be consumed through foods such as:

·         Green leafy vegetables

·         Dried beans

·         Legumes

·         Oranges

·         Orange Juice
