Crozer-Keystone Physician Establishes Center for
Medical Weight Loss
Horvitz-Rist sees
weight-loss patients at Crozer Medical Plaza at Brinton Lake, 300 Evergreen
Drive, Suite 150, in Glen Mills.
Horvitz-Rist’s Center
is part of a national network of physicians bringing medical experience to the
field of commercial weight loss. Originally founded by Michael S. Kaplan, M.D.,
a nationally known specialist in bariatric medicine, the Center for Medical
Weight Loss offers clients a long-term weight loss approach managed with the
full support of a certified medical professional.
Kaplan says,
“Excessive weight needs to be treated as the disease that it is—medically. Unlike leading consumer weight-loss
programs whose staff require no medical knowledge or training, Center for
Medical Weight Loss physicians are certified professionals. They fully
understand the complex factors that are related to weight gain—individual psychology, contributing illnesses,
prescription medication and the genetics of individual body composition.”
The Center’s program
aims to help clients break food addictions and reach a healthy target weight
quickly while learning healthy habits that will help them to maintain their
weight loss permanently.
The Center’s approach
begins with a comprehensive consultation and measurement process. “Whether
clients are suffering from severe health issues due to excess weight or are
looking to lose 15-20 pounds for cosmetic reasons, all receive a full medical
consultation with detailed scientific measurement of their body mass and basal
metabolic rate,” Horvist-Rist says. “The consultation and measurement allows me
to accurately predict weight-loss results based on each client’s individual
body composition analysis."
Each fully
individualized program is supported with ongoing one-on-one care, including
nutrition, fitness, medication, behavioral modification and counseling. This
includes access to high-quality nutritional products only available to
physicians. Clients will also have access to the latest, FDA-approved
weight-loss medications.
Board-certified in
Internal Medicine, Horvitz-Rist earned her medical degree at the Temple
University School of Medicine. She also completed her residency training at
Temple. The native of Cherry Hill, N.J., is also working toward her
certification in bariatric medicine. In addition to years of experience caring
for overweight patients, Horvitz-Rist has received extensive training from the
Center for Medical Weight Loss.
“I’m proud to bring
the Center for Weight Loss to Crozer-Keystone Health System and the communities
we serve. Losing weight can have many health benefits, such as lower blood
pressure, decreased dependence on diabetes and cholesterol medications and
reduced risk of such chronic diseases as congestive heart failure, clinical
depression, sleep apnea and lymphedema,” Horvitz-Rist says.
When appropriate,
Horvitz-Rist will work closely with other Crozer-Keystone physicians and
programs, including Leon Katz, M.D., and the Comprehensive Weight Loss Program
at Crozer-Chester Medical Center.
