Komen Supports CKHS Once Again with $100,000 Grants

The Philadelphia Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure recently announced the names of 44 organizations that will be receiving grants for breast cancer outreach initiatives in 2012-2013. Crozer-Chester Medical Center and Delaware County Memorial Hospital are included in the grantee group, each receiving $100,000 grants.

“Crozer-Chester Medical Center and Delaware Memorial Hospital and all our grantees are hard at work every day in our neighborhoods breaking down barriers, making critical connections to women and the loved ones who support them, and building bridges to the cures,” says Elaine Grobman, chief executive officer of the Philadelphia Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure. “ Their dedicated teams are out there helping fulfill the Komen Philadelphia Affiliate promise to not quit until we’ve led ALL women in our fifteen counties out of the darkness of this disease and instead filled their journey with hope and life-enriching, life-saving services regardless of race, financial ability, education or background.”

Komen for the Cure awarded Crozer and DCMH grants for its program to help meet the needs of uninsured and under-insured Delaware County residents. Services include screening mammograms, clinical breast exams, instruction in breast self-awareness, and outreach programs and education sessions for the community. Crozer-Keystone has partnered with Komen’s Philadelphia Affiliate since 2002, receiving more then $ 1 million in grants during that time frame.

The hospitals of Crozer-Keystone Health System also serve as on-site registration locations for the annual Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure (the region’s largest 5K run and fitness walk benefiting breast cancer research, education, screening and treatment) and annually have more than 300 participants from across the health system at the event. For their efforts, Crozer-Keystone’s team has earned the Sandy Richman Team Award.
