To help make the holiday season a little brighter for families in need, Crozer-Keystone Health System, the largest employer in Delaware County, has been working to collect food and toys to benefit less-fortunate families in the Delaware County area.
This past fall, Crozer-Keystone collected hundreds of non-perishable food items that were donated to secular and interfaith food banks in Delaware County—just in time for Thanksgiving. The food banks that received the donations include the Community Action Agency/Chester Food Shelters, Life Center at 69th Street, in Upper Darby; and Loaves and Fishes Food Pantry, in Prospect Park.
In an effort to help our neighbors in need, Crozer-Keystone employees donated items such as canned fruits and vegetables, instant mashed potatoes and gravy, cranberry sauce, dessert mixes, canned yams, macaroni and cheese, tuna fish and canned meats, bottled water, canned pasta, cereal and soups. Many people have benefited from the generous donations, especially seniors and families with children. Two-thousand twelve marked the fifth consecutive year that Crozer-Keystone has sponsored the Holiday Food Drive.
The generosity doesn’t stop there. Crozer-Keystone employees are now hosting a toy drive for Delaware County’s children in need. From Nov. 26 to Dec. 14, the health system will collect new, unwrapped toys at each of its hospitals. All toys will go directly to families within Delaware County through the Community Action Agency.
Donation bins will be located in the main lobbies of four of Crozer-Keystone’s hospitals (Community Hospital in Chester, Delaware County Memorial Hospital in Drexel Hill, Springfield Hospital in Springfield, and Taylor Hospital in Ridley Park). Crozer-Chester Medical Center in Upland will place a collection bin in the lobby of the Professional Office Buildings. For security purposes, all lobbies will be under video surveillance.
Some great toy drive gift ideas for children from 0-15 years are as follows:
- Children’s books
- Coloring books
- Building blocks
- Puzzles
- Board games
- Arts and crafts materials
- Sports equipment
- Dolls, action figures, etc.
