Upcoming Events Benefit CKHS Hospitals
‘Heroes For Hope’ Run/Walk
In early October 2007, Sean Curry unexpectedly had a seizure and was rushed to the hospital. Doctors found a brain tumor and had to operate immediately. The doctors removed the tumor, which tested positive for Glioblastoma multiform, cancer. The tumor was removed, but the tentacles had attached to other brain cells. Curry underwent intense radiation and chemotherapy. Sadly, he passed away on April 26, 2009.
In his honor and to help raise awareness of brain tumors, Sean’s family and friends are hosting the inaugural Heroes of Hope – One Step Closer to a Cure 5K Run and Walk in Memory of Sean Curry, on Saturday, May 12, 2012 at Ridley Creek State Park. Registration starts at 7:30 a.m.; Race begins at 9 a.m.
“After losing my husband to brain cancer, I felt so helpless. After doing some research and finding a connection with the Heroes of Hope and their ‘Grey Ribbon Crusade,’ I decided to organize a 5K run and have the proceeds donated to Crozer. The doctors were so wonderful with my husband and family during his illness, I wanted to give something back. In becoming a foundation myself, ‘The Sean Curry, One Step Closer to a Cure’ foundation, I will have an opportunity to raise funds annually for brain cancer research and keep my husband’s memory alive,” says Carol Curry.
All proceeds from the event will benefit the Crozer Regional Cancer Center. Visit www.seancurry5krun.org for more information and to register.
