Taylor Hospital Patient Receives Diploma in Hospital

Taylor Hospital patient, Sarah Holman, received her diploma while being hospitalized on the Telemetry Unit in May.

When it became apparent that Holman’s medical problems would prevent her from attending the ceremony, Denise Beauchamp, Ed.D., executive director of the Continuing Studies Department at Harcum College in Bryn Mawr, brought graduation to Holman. In a small ceremony in Holman's hospital room, Beauchamp conferred the associate's degree in Leadership Studies upon Holman.  Holman's coordinator, Judith Ortiz, presented her with her alumni t-shirt. The staff of Taylor Hospital also gave Holman a graduation cake, flowers and a small celebration.

“We were all shocked when we received word that Holman would not be able to attend the graduation ceremony,” says Beauchamp. “We figured that bringing graduation to her would lift her spirits and help her on her road to recovery.”

“It was great to have all of the Taylor Hospital staff involved in the celebration for Holman, including her physician, Dr. Samuel Ruby,” says Iesha White, M.S.W., Taylor Hospital medical social worker. “She worked so hard to achieve her degree, and is a working mom as well. She really deserved the special attention that was given to her.”
