William Zirker, M.D. M.P.H., Elected President of Eastern PA Geriatrics Society
William Zirker, M.D. M.P.H., chief of the Division of Geriatrics at Crozer-Chester Medical Center and medical director of CKHS Senior Health Services, was recently elected president of the Eastern PA Geriatrics Society.
Zirker is a board-certified geriatrician who practices with the Center for Geriatric Medicine/Crozer Medical Associates (CMA). CMA has three locations: Crum Lynne, Media and Upland.
The Eastern Pennsylvania Geriatrics Society (EPGS) is a non-profit, interdisciplinary group involved in geriatrics and gerontology. EPGS is the local affiliate to The American Geriatrics Society. Their objectives are as follows:
- Transmit and enhance education and health care of the elderly to the health care profession and the public.
- Facilitate increased awareness and dialogue regarding geriatric social and public policy.
- Encourage collaboration between the public and private sector impacting the quality of life of older individuals.
- Provide a forum for identifying mutual interests and programs for an expanding adult population.
Zirker was installed as the new President on Dec. 6 at The Union League of Philadelphia. He has been an active member of the Board of Directors for many years.
Zirker has served as medical director of Crozer-Keystone’s Senior Health Services department for nearly 10 years. In addition, he is the lead geriatrician for the health system’s Geriatric Evaluation and Management (GEM) program. A comprehensive GEM assessment includes a physical exam, an evaluation for memory loss, depression, day-to-day functioning, walking, nutrition and medications. Social support and community services are also assessed.
