Crozer-Chester Medical Center recently welcomed Christopher Stenberg, MBCHB, FAAP, as the new chairman of the Department of Pediatrics.

A board-certified pediatrician, Stenberg earned his Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery from the University of Auckland, New Zealand. In addition, he completed an internship and his pediatric training at Waikato Hospital, Hamilton, New Zealand and was a Pediatric Registrar at Prince of Wales Children’s Hospital in Sydney, Australia.

While at the Maine Medical Center in Portland, he completed his U.S. pediatric residency requirements and served as chief resident. He comes to Crozer from the Barbara Bush Children’s Hospital in Portland, Maine, where he served as the Director of Ambulatory Pediatrics. “I am excited about the position with Crozer. In Maine, we treated patients from a large area because we were the closest tertiary hospital for almost 90 miles. Crozer is very different and I am looking forward to the opportunities it brings,” he says.

In his new role, Stenberg will focus on the continued growth of the department.

“My goals for the department include increasing the use of the inpatient unit. Ideally, I would like to see an expansion in the subspecialty pool of physicians and provide an extended-time pediatric presence in the Emergency Department,” Stenberg says.

Additionally, he hopes for the continued growth and strengthening of the Pediatric Residency Program. “I would like to see more of a connection between Temple Medical School and the residency program,” he says.

Stenberg is a member of the Academic Pediatrics Association, American Academy of Pediatrics, American College of Physician Executives and the Association of Pediatric Program Directors.

In addition to his duties as chairman, Stenberg will also see patients as part of the Crozer Pediatrics practice. The practice offers a complete range of primary care services for newborns, children, adolescents and young adults up to the age of 21. The practice’s physicians work alongside families and referring providers to give the best possible care and promote health and wellness.

“We are excited that Dr. Stenberg has joined Crozer and look forward to working together to continue the growth of the department,” says Sonia Hulman, M.D., chief of the Division of Neonatology at Crozer-Chester Medical Center and interim chairperson.
