Crozer-Keystone is proud to announce that Crozer-Chester Medical Center, Delaware County Memorial Hospital and Taylor Hospital have each earned disease-specific certification in hip and knee replacement surgery by The Joint Commission. This means that the programs have met the highest national standards and guidelines that can significantly improve outcomes and satisfaction for joint replacement patients.

To earn this distinction, a disease management program undergoes an extensive on-site evaluation by a team of Joint Commission reviewers every two years. Certification demonstrates compliance with the most stringent standards of performance as well as a commitment to patient safety and providing quality care to patients.

Kristen Creighton, the assistant vice president of Operations at Taylor Hospital, says, “As the Crozer Keystone Business Development Director for Musculoskeletal services, I helped organize and champion the efforts in preparing and applying for Joint Commission disease-specific certification at Crozer, DCMH and Taylor Hospitals for total hip and total knee replacement. This certification assures our patients that they are receiving the highest quality care available in our area. Some of the requirements for certification include following nationally recognized clinical practice guidelines, standard order sets and clinical pathways, measuring quality indicators, providing enhanced education for staff and patients on total joint replacement, and following all of the joint commission standards.”

“The Joint Commission performed a thorough evaluation that included an assessment of our processes and in-depth interviews with patients and staff. They discovered what the people of Delaware County know – that Crozer-Keystone hospitals offer outstanding care for hip and knee replacement patients,” says Stuart Gordon, M.D., co-chief of the Section of Orthopedic Surgery at Taylor Hospital.

“These certifications could not have been achieved without strong team efforts. Congratulations to everyone involved, including all of the physicians, nurses, operating room professionals and administrators who work so hard every day,” says Eugene Elia, M.D., orthopedic surgeon at Delaware County Memorial Hospital and physician champion for disease-specific certification.

Crozer, DCMH and Taylor offer a range of comprehensive services for hip and knee replacement surgery—including minimally invasive techniques, custom knee replacement, computer-assisted surgery and hip resurfacing.

“We are proud to offer hip and knee replacement services at Crozer-Keystone hospitals that rival any health system in the region. These certifications are a clear affirmation of the quality of care that we provide to the people of Delaware County,” says Frank Giammattei, M.D., chief of the Division of Orthopedic Surgery at Crozer-Chester Medical Center.

In addition to the latest surgical care, the hospitals also offer free, pre-operative joint replacement education classes to help patients prepare for their experience; specialized inpatient units devoted to joint replacement patients; and physical and occupational therapists who help patients recover from their surgery.
