Theresa Venello, RN
Terri Venello received her diploma from the Nursing School of Wilmington. Throughout her 38-year professional nursing career, she has specialized in the field of behavioral health. Venello has distinguished herself as an advocate for patients with a variety of special needs, particularly geriatric patients and those suffering from substance abuse and mental health issues. Since joining Crozer-Chester Medical Center in 1976, she has served as a nurse leader in a variety of inpatient and outpatient behavioral management settings.
In her current position, Venello is responsible for adult outpatient mental health services provided to approximately 3,000 patients at the health system’s Community Hospital, an ambulatory care facility. She has clinical and administrative oversight for adult and geriatric outpatient care, a sex offender treatment program, and targeted case management programs.
Venello has been a member of numerous advisory boards and work groups, including the Aging and Behavioral Health Task Force and the Active Aging Adult Day Center Advisory Board. As a member of the Peer Specialist Advisory Board, Venello also helps certify other healthcare professionals who want to help patients with special needs.
In 1993, Venello was instrumental in developing a specialized Senior Services Program for Crozer-Keystone and served as the program director. This highly successful program included a geriatric substance abuse program and a special needs senior adult day care center for seniors suffering from mental health issues and substance abuse, as well as physical disabilities.
Currently, she is spearheading the development of a new perinatal mental health program to help women deal with issues related to pregnancy, miscarriage, still birth and post-partum depression. She is also collaborating on the development of a health integration program to improve physical healthcare for patients with mental health issues. A key element of this program is the creation of a healthcare navigator role for mental health case managers.
Venello is a well-respected presenter on a variety of mental health topics to hospital staff, as well as agency and community groups. Her topics include depression, alcohol use in the older adult, overviews of mental health, coping with loss, screenings for depression and other general wellness and illness prevention strategies.
