Magnet Update: A Message from Nancy Bucher, RN, MSN, NEA-BC
I’d like to give you a brief update about our quest for Magnet excellence.
As you know, Crozer-Keystone submitted its first Magnet application to American Nurses Credentialing Center in February of this year. In the spring, we heard back from the review team. The reviewers deemed 64 components of our clinical practice as excellent and Magnet-worthy. Unfortunately, 50 components required either further clarification or further development. The reviewers did not grant a site visit.
Our Magnet submission was impressive – five volumes filled with ample evidence of the excellence of Crozer-Keystone Health System nurses and the care that they provide to our patients. We should not be embarrassed that we did not achieve our goal on the first try. Christiana Care, Jefferson University Hospital and the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania were also not successful on their first attempt. In addition, the ANCC encouraged use to re-submit within two years.
And that’s exactly what we’re going to do. Our plan is to increase the breadth and depth of our submission, and resubmit our application in October of 2012. We learned a great deal from the experience of submitting our first application. Based on the comments of the ANCC reviewers, we know what we need to create a successful submission, and we have put the infrastructure in place to begin the detailed process of creating it.
Of course, we can’t do it without you. We need the support, knowledge and enthusiasm of all of our nurses. We need you to continue to let us know about all of the great things that you are doing every day in terms of patient care, leadership, research and more. I know that we are a Magnet health system. In October 2012, we will submit a document that accurately demonstrates that fact.
