Crozer-Keystone Celebrates National Nurses Week

National Nurses Week is celebrated annually from May 6, also known as National Nurses Day, through May 12, the birthday of Florence Nightingale, the founder of modern nursing. During this week – and throughout the year – Crozer-Keystone Health System joins those across the nation in honoring the dedication, compassion and skill of our nurses. Here is a listing of some special events taking place at CKHS hospitals throughout the week and beyond.

Crozer-Chester Medical Center

  • Tuesday, May 10: Hot dogs, soda and pretzels. First shift in the Cafeteria, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.; Second shift in the Atrium, 4 to 7:30 p.m.; Third shift, delivered to units.
  • Wednesday, May 11: Employee Recognition Awards dinner (invitation only) in the James E. Clark Center Auditorium, 6 p.m.
  • Thursday, May 12: Nurses Day Celebration in the James E. Clark Center Auditorium, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. This will include the Catherine Bakia Lecture Series from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m., the Excellence in Nursing Awards and the Justin Methven Award presentations from 10 to 11:30 a.m., and lunch and raffles from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. In addition, educational information booths (including several from area colleges and universities) will be available in the Clark Center lobby during this time.
  • Friday, May 13: Ice cream social in the Cafeteria, 2 to 4 p.m. Third-shift nurses will receive snacks on the units.
  • Saturday, May 14: Pretzels and ice cream in the Atrium, 7:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Third-shift nurses will receive snacks on the units.
  • In addition, massages will be given in the 1 East Gym at the following dates and times: May 9, 4 to 9 a.m.; May 10, 4 to 7 p.m.; May 12, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.; May 14, 5 to 7 p.m.

Delaware County Memorial Hospital

  • Sunday, May 8: Soft pretzels for weekend staff. Pretzels arrive at 1 p.m. and units will be called to come to the main lobby to pick up orders.
  • Monday, May 9: Pizza “Lunch and Learn” program about domestic abuse in Meeting Room A, 11:15 to 11:45 and 12:15 to 12:45. The program will include a clothing and article drive to benefit the Domestic Abuse Project of Delaware County.
  • Tuesday, May 10: Professional Recognition Celebration in the Main Lobby, 11 a.m. Employee Awards Dinner in the Cafeteria (invitation only), 7 p.m.
  • Thursday, May 12: Employee lunch and dinner in the Cafeteria, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
  • Friday, May 13: Employee breakfast for night shift in Rooms A and C, 6 to 8 a.m. Shoe sale and massages in Rooms A and C, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Adopt a Pig – a community project designed to help kids with cancer –11 a.m. to 1 p.m., Rooms A and C.
  • Saturday, May 14: Soft pretzels for weekend staff. Pretzels arrive at 1 p.m. and units will be called to come to the main lobby to pick up orders.
  • NOTE: A college and university fair will be held on May 24 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Springfield Hospital

  • Sunday, May 8: Continental breakfast and pizza for weekend staff (delivered).
  • Monday, May 9: Ice cream and brownies in the Lower Level Conference Room, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Taylor Hospital

  • Friday, May 6: Events started today with drug diversion awareness in-service in Classrooms A and B.
  • Saturday, May 7: Food, fun, relaxation, door prizes and raffles in Classrooms A and B, 11:30 to 1 p.m.
  • Monday, May 9: Join Flat Stanley as he accompanies us on our Magnet journey in Classrooms A and B, 1 to 3 p.m. Light snack will be served.
  • Tuesday, May 10: College and Professional Development Fair in the Cafeteria hallway, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
  • Wednesday, May 11: Food, fun, relaxation, smoothie bar, door prizes, boutique and raffles in Classrooms A, B and C, 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. For the night shift, the Cafeteria will be open from midnight to 1 a.m. for a splash party.
  • Thursday, May 12: Unconventional book sale (scrap “books” and pocket “books”) in Classroom C from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Home Care and Hospice

Home Care and Hospice nurses are celebrating with new, colorful notebooks that they use in the field. In addition, nurses will also receive a small token bag with a range of fun items inside.
