Manuel and Mendez Appointed Administrative Nursing Directors

Kathleen M. Manuel, RN, MSN, OCN, Delaware County Memorial Hospital, and Christine M. Mendez, RN, BSN, Taylor Hospital, were recently appointed administrative nursing directors at their respective hospitals. 

In her new position, Kathleen M. Manuel, RN, MSN, OCN, Delaware County Memorial Hospital, has responsibility for the Cardiac Intensive Care Unit, 5 and 3 Telemetry, Oncology, Maternal Child Health and 3 East units as well as the IV Therapy Department at DCMH. A 35-year nursing veteran, Manuel has served at DCMH throughout her career, holding staff, management and supervisory positions on Oncology and medical/surgical units. As well as being a Magnet Ambassador, she has served on numerous CKHS nursing and hospital committees, including the Nurse Executive Council, Nurse Practice Council, Nurse Management Council, Cancer Committee, Tumor Board, Infection Control, Value Analysis and Pain Management Committees, and the API Electronic Staffing and Scheduling Implementation Team.

Manuel speaks on care of the cancer patient for Crozer-Keystone’s Cornerstone New Graduate Program for hospital nursing staff and for the Emergency Fellowship.  She received her bachelor’s degree in nursing from Immaculata University and her master’s in nursing from Widener University. She has also completed post masters training in nursing administration at Villanova University.

A certified oncology nurse, Manuel is a member of Sigma Theta Tau International, the Pennsylvania Organization of Nurse Leaders, Southeastern Pennsylvania Organization of Nurse Leaders, Oncology Nursing Society, Delta Epsilon Sigma Honor Society and Kappa Gamma Pi Honor Society.

Christine M. Mendez, RN, BSN, Taylor Hospital, has responsibility for Medical-Surgical, Telemetry, Oncology units and the Administrative Supervisory teams at Taylor Hospital. A 20-year Taylor veteran, she first served the hospital as a food service aide and patient care technician, advancing to staff nurse in 1997 after receiving her bachelor’s degree in nursing from Neumann College. In 2007, she was named Employee of the Year. Mendez was promoted to Nurse Director of the Orthopedic/Medical surgical unit in 2008. She has been instrumental in continuing to develop Taylor’s Total Joint Team and building the hospital’s program while pursuing Total Joint Certification. Mendez is committed to improving patient and employee satisfaction, and chairs the inpatient satisfaction team.

Currently pursuing a master’s degree in nursing at West Chester University, Mendez was recognized as Taylor Hospital’s Manager of the Quarter for September through November 2009. She has served as the Administrative Nursing liaison for Taylor’s Nurse Practice Council and chairs the Nurse Executive Council.

Mendez is a member of the American Nurses Association and American Diabetes Association.
