"Breathing 101" on April 14

  • Do you or someone you love suffer from asthma?
  • Do you live with a smoker and have concerns about your lung health?
  • Are you a smoker with concerns about breathing and Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD)?

If you answered "yes" to any of these questions, then you will learn a great deal of valuable information at our program, including:

  • How you may qualify for the CKHS Lung Screaning Program (for smokers and ex-smokers only).
  • How to relieve pain with over-the-counter medications and conservative therapies.
  • When to see a doctor for your lung problem.

Screenings will be provided for:

  • Prostate (For men over 50 or 40 if you are African American or have a family history of prostate cancer. Participants should not be under the care of an urologist, been treated for prostate cancer or have had a PSA within the past year.
  • Leg Vein (For leg pain and swelling, cramping, bulging leg veins)
  • Hand (Arthritis and Carpal Tunnel)
  • Walk In Mammograms (Bring insurance information; if uninsured or underinsured, call 610-447-2645 for more information).
  • Blood Pressure
  • Glucose/Cholesterol (Fasting is required; nothing to eat or drink past midnight)
  • Bone Density
  • Breast Exams

Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction 9-Week Class Starting April 28 in Glen Mills

The Healthplex® Sports Club is hosting a 9-week program in proven stress management practices called Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction, from April 28-June 23, 6-8:30 p.m. at Crozer Medical Plaza at Brinton Lake, Community Room, 300 Evergreen Drive, Glen Mills.

What is Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction?

Stress affects all of us - physically, mentally, and emotionally. What if there was a proven technique to reduce stress and increase wellness? This is where Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) can help.

World wide, tens of thousands of people have completed the MBSR program. Developed by Dr. Jon Kabat-Zinn at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center, MBSR is supported by over two decades of research.

During this program you will develop critical life-long stress management skills that have proven to reduce stress, improve health, and increase quality of life.

The majority of MBSR graduates report:

  • Decreases in physical and emotional symptoms.
  • Enhanced ability to relax.
  • Reduction in pain and improved pain tolerance. 
  • Increased energy and self-esteem.
  • Improved coping skills with short and long-term stress.

Program Cost:

EARLY BIRD SPECIAL: Register by 3/21 and save $100, pay only $395. Register by 4/4 and save $50, pay only $445. *Cannot be combined with any other offer.

Standard cost of the program is $495. This includes 27 hours of instruction over nine weeks (including one full-day session), a textbook, study manual, and a series of recorded meditations. Members and Non-members welcome. Healthplex and CKHS Employee discounts available.

Instructor:

Curt Woolford, MA, E-RYT

Curt began his personal meditation practice 25 years ago and has been teaching yoga, meditation, and tai chi/qigong for 15 years. He is a practitioner of yoga and mindfulness forms of meditation and is certified from Kripalu. With degrees in Philosophy and Educational Psychology, Curt brings a deep awareness of the learning process to his mindfulness instruction.

Anyone who has been diagnosed with cancer, along with his or her family members, is invited to attend Crozer-Keystone's Cancer Survivors Day Celebration on Monday, June 15, 6 p.m., at the Springfield Country Club. All Crozer-Keystone facilities - including Crozer-Chester Medical Center, Delaware County Memorial Hospital, Taylor Hospital and Crozer Brinton Lake - are celebrating Cancer Survivors Day together this year.
