Responsiveness

During the last decade, CKHS focused its resources on building a healthier community in which to live and work.  It worked proactively to promote wellness for all its constituents through education, preventive care, and early detection of disease.  The health system built partnerships to address the most important health issues facing the community, routinely conducted health surveys to monitor progress, and targeted programs to reduce risk factors.

The federal government’s Healthy People 2000: National Health Promotion and Disease Prevention Objectives measured our community’s progress toward a healthier future over the last decade.  As reported, residents of Delaware County:

•   met or exceeded 13 of 20 Healthy People 2000 national goals

•   exceeded by 36% Healthy People 2000 goals for prostate cancer screening

•   exceeded by 21% Healthy People 2000 goals for mammography

The challenge for the next decade is to maintain the progress made and strive to achieve the goals as set forth in the Healthy People 2010 objectives.
