K.A.M.P. - Kids Asthma Management Program
In 1999, Crozer-Keystone launched this school-based asthma management program that offers a range of services: asthma screening; referral to spirometry (lung function testing); information about how to use asthma action plans; group education for students, parents and school /daycare staff; professional education for clinicians; asthma awareness days; access to the Summer Asthma Day Camp; and oversight for the Pediatric Asthma Task Force of Delaware County.
K.A.M.P. started in the Chester city schools and then expanded to Chichester and Upper Darby with the help of grant funding. Today, Crozer-Keystone makes the program available throughout all of Delaware County, notes Zalika Shani, MPH, MCHES, program manager for K.A.M.P.
“We can work with any school-public, parochial, charter-and tailor the program to their needs, whether they want the Open Airways program for students who have asthma, a faculty in-service or a parent education session. I reach out to school nurses in all of the county’s districts as well as daycare and early learning centers to figure out where K.A.M.P. can make a difference.” - Zalika Shani, MPH, MCHES, program manager for K.A.M.P.
