Tennis Lessons and Clinics in Springfield, PAOur goal is to offer our tennis-playing members and guests the highest level of personal attention attainable while providing a comprehensive year-round program. Our Tennis Professionals will strive to ensure that your time spent during private lessons, group clinics, and Interclub matches is rewarding and instructional as possible. Our forward-thinking staff has the desire and ability to challenge and motivate every level of junior to adult tennis player.

The philosophy of the Healthplex Sports Club Tennis Department is to provide every tennis player with a positive learning experience in a highly motivating atmosphere through quality instruction and programming.

Tennis Clinic Dates 2016-2017

Session 1: September 12 - October 15 (5 weeks)
Session 2: October 17 - November 19 (5 weeks)
Session 3: November 21 - December 24 (5 weeks)
Session 4: January 2 - February 4 (5 weeks)
Session 5: February 6 - March 11 (5 weeks)
Session 6: March 13 - April 15 (5 weeks)
Session 7: April 17 - May 20 (5 weeks)

Junior Development Programs

Red Ball Tennis (ages 4-6 years old)

All Sessions are 5 weeks - Mon. or Wed. 4-5 p.m., or Sat. 10-11a.m. Member $100, Non-Member $140.

This introductory class introduces our youngest athletes to tennis. In addition, the class focuses on athletic movement, catching, throwing, and ball tracking skills. Red Ball uses low compression balls, smaller racquets, and smaller courts to maximize each student’s ability to learn and play!

Orange Ball Tennis (ages 7-10 years old) and Green Ball Tennis (ages 12 and under)

All Sessions are 5 weeks - Mon. or Wed. 5-6 p.m. or Sat. 11 a.m.-12 p.m. Member $100, Non-member $140.

Moving from the 36 ft. to the 60 ft. court and increasing the pace of play, Clinic students will refine their strokes and continue to build their athletic movement, catching, throwing, and ball tracking skills. Students will begin to focus more on point play and serving. Players will have the opportunity to begin match play practice through in house and local leagues. More advanced players will make the final transition between modified skills training and full court tennis training. This level moves to the full size tennis court but continues to incorporate the use of slower, low compression balls. Classes focus on improved rally and serving skills, while continuing to reinforce technical ability, movement, and tracking skills.

14-Under Tennis (ages 11-14 years old)

All Sessions are 5 weeks - Mon. or Wed. 5-6 p.m. or Sat. 11 a.m.-12 p.m. Member $100, Non-member $140.

A clinic for the beginning player ages 11 and older. The clinic will focus on stroke development, movement and ball tracking skills. This clinic is ideal for the beginner who has the goal of playing high school tennis.

Junior Competitive Programs

10 and Under Competitive

All Sessions are 5 weeks - Tues. or Thurs. 4-5:30 p.m. or Sat. 12-1:30 p.m. Member $150, Non-member $210.

Middle School Competitive

All Sessions are 5 weeks - Tues. or Thurs. 4-5:30 p.m. or Sat. 12-1:30 p.m. Member $150, Non-member $210.

10 and Under Competitive and Middle School Competitive - Designed for juniors transitioning to full court tennis with yellow balls. Classes are designed to continue teaching the technical foundation of tennis in a fun games based approach. At this age, students will receive an appropriate mix of drilling, hitting, games, and match play to ensure skills are enforced while students learn to have fun with tennis and enjoy the sport to the fullest. Students will be encouraged to participate in team based team tennis leagues. Junior Competitive prepares students for competitive team tennis, school tennis, and entry level tournament competition.

High School Competitive (ages 15-18 years old)

All Sessions are 5 weeks - Tues. or Thurs. 4 -5:30 p.m. or Sat. 12-1:30 p.m. Member $150, Non-member $210.

Designed for high school varsity level players. This clinic combines a mix of hand fed, racquet fed, and live ball drills and games designed to enhance skills and match play ability. This clinic is ideal for players looking to hit lots of balls and keep their skills fresh.

Registration and Discounts

Due to the popularity of our junior clinics, early registration is important. There will be a 10% discount for multiple clinics per week. Discount will be taken off the additional clinic only. Due to limited space and the various levels of clinics, we cannot accommodate makeup classes.

Adult Tennis Programs

Tennis 101 (Co-ed 1.0-2.5) & Tennis 102 (Co-ed 2.5-3.0)

Tennis 101 (Co-ed 1.0-2.5) - Designed for players new to the game of tennis or returning after a long break! This class is designed to teach and improve all areas of the game including groundstrokes, volleys, serving, and match play. Classes are 90 minutes in length and feature a mix of drills, rallying, point play, and match practice.

Tennis 102 (Co-ed 2.5+) - The next level after Tennis 101. Classes continues to build on developing groundstrokes, volleys, and serving and will start to focus on stroke mechanics, and match play skills, such as strategy, court positioning and more. Classes are 90 minutes in length and feature a mix of drills, rallying, point play, and match practice.

All sessions are 5 weeks: Tuesdays 6:30-8:00 p.m., Thursdays 9:30-11:00 a.m. Member $150, Non-member $210.

Intermediate Ladies Clinic (3.0 to 3.5) New Time!

Designed to teach players a more in depth understanding of stroke mechanics, point production, and match play skills. Classes will focus on stroke refinement, singles and doubles strategy, court positioning, and more. Classes are 90 minutes in length and feature a mix of fast paced drills, point play, and match practice.

All session are 5 weeks: New Time – Tuesdays 10:30 a.m.-12:00 p.m., Thursdays 6:30-8:00 p.m. Member $150, Non-member $210.

Weekly Sign-up Clinics (Register at the Service Desk)

These clinics begins the week of October 17.

Clinics specializing in specific strokes or tactics are offered weekly on a drop-in basis.

Fit to Hit (Tennis Boot Camp)

Fit to Hit is a high energy tennis class that combines the best features of the sport of tennis with cardiovascular exercise, delivering the ultimate, full body, calorie burning aerobic workout. Classes are 60 minutes in length.

  • When: Mondays 7:00-8:00 a.m. and 12:00-1:00 p.m., Tuesdays 6:30-7:30 p.m.
  • Fees: Member $20 per visit; Non-member $28 per visit

Finishing School (Formerly Volleys Clinic)

Focuses on how to put the ball away and end the point (finishing). Drills will include smashing overheads, angle volleys, pounding poaches, mid-court drives and ferocious forehands. You will also learn how to read offensive opportunities. Classes are 90 minutes in length and will include drills, games, and point play.

  • When: Wednesdays 11:00 a.m.-12:30 p.m.
  • Fees: Member $30 per visit; Non-member $42 per visit

Live Ball (Co-ed 3.0 and Up)

Live Ball is 90 minutes of non-stop point play. Classes feature fast paced singles and doubles point play. Courts are organized by level and players in this clinic will Play, Play, Play! Live Ball is a great way to get a workout, sweat, and compete.

  • When: Wednesdays 6:30-8:00 p.m., Saturdays 9:00-10:30 a.m.
  • Fees: Member $30 per visit; Non-member $42 per visit.

Advanced Workout (Co-ed 4.0 and up)

Designed to give experienced players a fast paced workout and the chance to hit lots of balls. The focus is on applying strokes to live situations, movement, position, and strategy. Classes are 90 minutes in length and feature a blend of fast paced fed ball and live ball drills, point play, and match practice.

  • When: Thursdays 9:30–11:00 a.m.
  • Fees: Member $30 per visit; Non-member $42 per visit

50+ Round Robin

Consists of 2 hours of doubles and mixed doubles. It promises to be a fun morning of tennis.

  • When: Fridays 9:00-11:00 a.m.
  • Fees: Members $10 per visit; Non-member $20 per visit
